PJ Model – Designed for Playability

From the Japan Tune-up series, known for its reliable domestic construction, comes the first bass model featuring a PJ configuration. In addition to the classic alder body and rosewood fingerboard combination, the pairing of a powerful P-style pickup and a J-style pickup positioned slightly toward the bridge delivers the widest range of tonal variations in the entire Japan Tune-up series. Furthermore, by incorporating a roasted maple neck and offering a lineup of subdued colors that step back a bit from the standard options, this series presents players with new choices.

Pickups

Neck Pickup: The series’ first P-style pickup

The P-style pickup, mounted in the neck position, is a split-coil design that is resistant to noise and delivers a punchy tone with a robust low-end and rich mids. It has higher output than a single-coil pickup and, when blended with the bridge pickup, produces a wide range of sounds.

Bridge Pickup: ’70s Position

The J-style bridge pickup retains the placement found on vintage ’70s basses, positioned slightly closer to the bridge. This results in a tighter sound and delivers a tone that cuts through the mix cleanly even when used in a band setting.

Alder Body

Crafted from alder, a classic body wood used for decades. Known for its rich midrange, its well-balanced, neutral tone makes it exceptionally easy to shape your sound.

Rosewood fretboard

It features a rosewood fingerboard that pairs exceptionally well with the alder body. Characterized by its low-mid range, it delivers a rich, clear sound.

Roasted maple neck with enhanced rigidity

This model also features a Roasted Maple Neck, which has become a popular new staple of the Bacchus line. Thanks to heat treatment it goes through, the neck boasts exceptional rigidity and resistance to warping, while also delivering a crisp, sharp sound with quick attack.

A Slim Body That Carries on the WOODLINE Legacy

As a derivative model of the popular “WOODLINE” design, this instrument retains its shape but features a body with a slightly sharper design than the original. Not only does it feel great in your hands, but it also showcases the PJ-style look to its best advantage.

Optimized Brass Neck Plate

Features an original brass neck plate with a high density designed for optimal balance. It is heavier than conventional models and is characterized by a rich, full-bodied bass tone that extends across the mid-to-low frequency range.

Active circuitry that enables flexible sound design

Like the active models in the Handmade series, this model features a 2-band EQ to support fine-tuning your sound while playing. You can also use it as a passive model by flipping the mini switch.

Bacchus Japan Tune-up Series

With the JT Series, we envision every player being able to start using their instrument right away. That’s why our dedicated division in Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, takes the time and care to meticulously adjust and set up each instrument one by one. Carrying on the spirit of Bacchus’s top-of-the-line Handmade Series, which began in 2001, we deliver instruments that players can trust with confidence to deliver the very best performance.

■ About the “JT Series”

Its most distinctive feature is the final production stage, carried out by experienced Japanese craftsmen. At a specialized department within the “Deviser Technical Center,” located adjacent to the Aska Workshop, each watch is individually tuned to suit its specific characteristics.

In addition to fret dressing and nut shaping, we thoroughly perform other tuning-up tasks, such as adjusting the string action, which directly affects playability, and applying the final finish to the fingerboard. While new guitars and basses often have various issues that make them difficult to play, we remain committed to ensuring that the JT Series supports players’ musical lives from the very day they purchase one.
