The “HJ-BOOGIE”, which gained popularity in the early 2010s, makes its long-awaited return as part of the Headway Japan Tune-Up series. The body, available in cool BLK (Black) and DFG (Deep Forest Green) colorways, is lavishly adorned with block position markers and multi-color binding. Equipped with Fishman® pickups and thoroughly set up by our in-house specialists, this guitar is ready to play right out of the box.

The lineup features two colors: “BLK (Black),” a classic shade with a bold presence, and “DFG (Deep Forest Green),” a subdued hue reminiscent of a verdant forest. Combined with the round shoulder style that accentuates its rock-inspired look, these colors offer distinct personalities for you to enjoy.

The headstock features an inlay depicting the year Headway was founded, “1977,” with the “77” designed in an argyle pattern. By incorporating the brand’s history and identity into these details, we have created the distinctive presence and elegance that defines the HJ-BOOGIE.

Luxurious inlay work

The fingerboard features block position markers that combine excellent visibility with a striking presence. Not only do they ensure easy visibility while playing, but they also make a bold visual statement. This inlay work, which balances impact with a sense of luxury, perfectly complements the HJ-BOOGIE’s rock-inspired style and further enhances its unique character.

Bindings that define the body’s appearance

The multi-layered binding that adorns the body’s edges serves as a key accent that sharpens the overall look while highlighting its premium feel. The binding, which complements both the BLK (Black) and DFG (Deep Forest Green) body colors, beautifully accentuates the round-shoulder silhouette.

Ready-to-use configuration featuring a Fishman® preamp

The preamp features a Fishman® Sonitone preamp. This preamp utilizes an under-saddle pickup, and by adjusting the output balance during saddle adjustment, it is ready for use on stage or in the studio right out of the box. Additionally, this preamp includes volume and tone controls inside the soundhole, allowing you to easily adjust the volume and tone to suit the situation and support your performance. Since the signal is output via the endpin jack, both the preamp and output jack are installed on the body without any modifications.

What is the JT Series?

I’ve heard that professional guitarists don’t simply use a guitar as-is after purchasing it; instead, they first entrust it to a trusted luthier to have it adjusted to their preferred settings before taking the stage. Experienced players who are deeply familiar with their instruments even file down the nut themselves, fine-tuning it until it feels just right. They know that a precise setup tailored to the player directly translates into better guitar playing. With the Headway Japan Tune-up Series, we have meticulously focused on every detail to ensure the guitar is set up to maximize its full potential. We deliver guitars of uncompromising quality, a result that can only be achieved by diligently and reliably performing each of these seemingly mundane tasks, one by one.

Key Features

Like the higher-end models in the Headway series, the JT series features “dovetail joints” and a “post-process assembly” construction, both of which require high precision. It also comes standard with a strap pin on the heel and is equipped with a FISHMAN preamp.

Neck Groove Machining + Post-processing Assembly

The neck-to-body joint is a critical component in guitar construction. Headway has long employed “dovetail joint construction” and “post-finishing neck installation” in its high-end domestic models, and we are pleased to announce that these features are now available in the JT series as well. The “post-process assembly”, in which the body and neck are joined after finishing, is not only labor-intensive but also requires precision in the machining of the neck joint. However, we have traditionally adopted this method due to the beautiful finish of the joint and the ease with which precise playability can be achieved.

Nut & Saddle Machining

The nut is a crucial component that supports the strings. We carefully adjust the string grooves to match the condition of each individual guitar and smooth out the edges. By smoothing the edges of the saddle as well, we’ve improved the feel when the right hand comes into contact with it, such as during bridge muting.

String action

String action plays a major role in how easy a guitar is to play. Each guitar in the JT series is carefully adjusted to the optimal string action, prioritizing playability.

Rounding the Fret Edges

By using different grits of sandpaper and steel wool to carefully round off the edges of each fret, making it easier to move your left hand smoothly. This way you can glide my fingers all the way up to the higher frets without issues.

Fretboard Treatment

The fingerboard is a critical component that affects sound quality and attack. After polishing it with steel wool, we thoroughly protect it with lemon oil.

Elixir Strings (Factory-Installed)

We chose Elixir’s Phosphor Bronze Light Gauge strings, favored by many players, as the factory-installed strings.

Included Case

It comes with a sturdy gig bag featuring thick padding. The zippered pocket on the front has a gusset, providing ample space to store A4-sized sheet music and accessories.
