The Aska Workshop is preparing a flagship STR, -JTG DESIGN- for the 2025 One Day Guitar Show

The “STR JTG DESIGN” model, offered by boutique brand STR Guitars, which specializes in one-off and custom-made instruments, has been selected to participate in the exhibition at the 2025 One Day Guitar Show.
The STR JTG DESIGN is a new creation by the late James Tyler, a legendary guitar builder renowned for crafting high-end component guitars, designed for the brand “STR” by Aska craftsman Satoru Yatsuzuka.
Masterpieces worthy of the title of: “A fusion of Satoru Yatsuzuka’s craftsmanship, which fully understands the characteristics of Japanese and exotic woods to maximize their appeal, and Tyler’s functional yet beautiful guitar designs”. This article shows you a bit about the production process of 4 new models being exhibited in this year’s One Day Guitar Show event.
A model featuring a unique painting technique utilizing fluid art
First, let’s start with a model featuring a black base with red, yellow, and white coloring. Inspired by the fluid art technique, which creates line patterns reminiscent of paint dripping into water, this piece is uniquely handcrafted by Aska’s finish artisans. The expansive design spreading across the lower left of the body top evokes the flames depicted in Japanese paintings, resulting in a distinctive and striking impression.

The body’s predominantly yellow and white color scheme creates a one-of-a-kind finish, like flashes of lightning darting through the clouds, rendered in flowing lines. The same coloring technique is applied not only to the body but also to the headstock, extending the flow of color across the entire instrument.
Two models featuring a three-layer elbow contour design
Three-layer elbow contour & center 3-piece construction sets it apart from other models
This model features a design incorporating a distinct wood material at the body’s center, serving as an iconic symbol for the model itself and making a strong visual statement even during the manufacturing process. Furthermore, the elbow contour, achieved through a three-layer structure created by alternating wood materials, combines functionality with visual beauty.

The head embodies the essence of the STR JTG DESIGN model, featuring a heel cut on the ash wood body back for enhanced palm fit. It is currently undergoing a thorough polishing process in preparation for the finish.
The grain of carefully selected back-eye birch wood

This model features burl wood that evokes the essence of the earth and creates an atmosphere where the wood seems to speak to you. It also incorporates a three-layer elbow contour, resulting in a piece where the striking burl grain and the design’s aesthetic resonate together.

Viewed head-on, its imposing presence becomes even more striking. This model features a mahogany body, delivering a warmer sound.
The elbow contour sections of these two models will also feature a painted accent to enhance the body top’s visual impression. We invite you to look forward to the completed form, which will add another layer of appeal beyond what you see in these photos.
A model featuring the finest snakewood fingerboard
The final model in today’s article features snakewood, a wood renowned for its extreme rarity. Its uniquely beautiful natural grain has long been prized for high-end walking sticks, gun stocks, and knife handles. Remarkably, this model uses this ultra-rare wood for the fingerboard. While we can’t reveal the full design yet, even the side of the fingerboard reveals its distinctive serpentine grain pattern.

The body itself still needs painting, but we plan to incorporate a “snakewood” motif into the finish. I’m already excited to see how it turns out.
The full details of each model will be released on the event date
The various models from STR JTG DESIGN that we’ve introduced are now nearing the final stages of production. We invite you to view these masterpieces, a fusion of the technology STR Guitars has developed and Tyler’s design, on the feature website on the day of the event.
