This model has been upgraded with enhanced specifications and a new model name for production starting in 2026 and beyond, following the renewal of Momose products. (Previous model name: MJS2-STD/R)
For details on the new specifications, please refer to the “New Specifications Following the Renewal” section below.

Introduction

Momose’s original “MJS” gets an update

The “MJS (Momose Jazz Style)” was developed as an offset shape model for the Original Series. It retains the vintage feel while incorporating Momose’s unique updated specifications, reflecting feedback from our users. The “MJS1/R” features an alder body combined with a rosewood fingerboard.

①Series/Parallel Switch

Typically, a Series/Parallel switch is used where a standard ON/OFF switch would be located. When the switch is in the right position, it enables parallel connection, allowing you to switch between the neck and bridge pickups using the selector switch, just like on a standard guitar.

When the switch is in the left position, the pickups are connected in series, linking the front and rear pickups in sequence to increase output. This allows switching the large-size single-coil pickup to a thick, round tone reminiscent of a humbucker, enabling a sound that caters to an even wider range of genres.

※When connected in series, the selector switch will not function, but all knobs remain usable.

②High-pass Filter

The preset volume position incorporates a high-pass filter. When the knob is fully turned, high frequencies pass through, but as you turn it down, high frequencies are blocked. This also enables sound shaping that can mellow out the JM model’s characteristic high-frequency tone.

③Low-pass Filter

The preset tone control features a low-pass filter. When the knob is fully turned, low frequencies pass through; when turned down, low frequencies are blocked.

Equipped with an MS-type saddle that minimizes string slippage

This model comes standard with MS-type tuners that resist string slippage. Not only do they offer exceptional tuning stability, but they also deliver deep, resonant low-mids and long sustain.

Recessed Neck Joint

While employing an orthodox plate joint to preserve traditional sound characteristics, the plate section has been recessed slightly to enhance playability.

Wood Binding to Prevent Fingerboard Issues

The fingerboard sides feature wood binding made from the same material as the fingerboard. This not only makes the fingerboard sides exceptionally smooth but also prevents issues like fret sprouts.

Generously widened rod adjuster

The uniquely shaped headstock features a wide adjustment hole for smooth neck adjustment. Its shape is also deliberately made wider for easier adjustment.

-New Specifications Following the Renewal-

“Hotrod” Pickup

With the 2026 Momose product renewal, the specifications of the conventional “Hotrod” pickups have been improved. Output has been slightly increased through fine-tuning, while maintaining the clean, resonant sound rich in harmonics. This makes it easier to shape sounds suitable for lead playing.

Luminlay phosphorescent material side dots

All models feature Luminlay photoluminescent material for side position markers, which stores light and emits it in darkness. This specification is highly valued in darker or more dimly lit live houses and concert halls, and enjoys strong support from professional musicians. It reduces the risk of losing sight of your position in the dark.

Puretone® Audio jack

All models feature Puretone® jacks, renowned for their secure hold and low noise. Unlike conventional audio jacks with separate hot and cold terminals, these incorporate two hot and two cold terminals each, firmly gripping the plug from both sides. Resistant to loosening even with long-term use, they deliver stable performance to support your playing.

Fingerboard designed for diverse playing styles

Featuring a 310R radius fingerboard, which is flatter than the vintage style. This allows for lower string action than ever before, making it easier to tackle technical playing that demands fast fretting.

How to distinguish from past models

Previous Momose models featured only the “MADE IN JAPAN” label, but the renewed models from 2026 onward adopted a new design incorporating the “Aska Quality” logo on top of it.
